Tab Title: Step 1

Tab Content:

Consider the inequality Minus 2 x minus 7 is less than 11. The first step is to isolate the term with the variable. To do this, add 7 to both sides of the inequality. This gives us:

Minus 2 x minus 7 plus 7 is less than 11 plus 7

Minus 2 x is less than 18

Tab Title: Step 2

Tab Content:

Next, we isolate the variable from its term. For this example, we accomplish this by dividing both sides of the inequality by 2. This gives us:

Minus 2 x divided by minus 2 is greater than 18 divided by minus 2

x is greater than minus 9

Note: The symbol was reversed because both sides of the inequality were divided by negative 2.

Tab Title: Testing

Tab Content:

After solving equations with inequalities, we can represent them on a number line. The number line for our example is displayed. Values starting from minus 9 are onwards are selected on the number line.
